Rear Admiral Ralph Aston.

Ralph Aston, Rear Admiral of the United States Navy, died yesterday at his home, 78 Hanson Place, Brooklyn, of a complication of diseases. He had been ill for two years. He leaves a widow, two sons, and a daughter.

He was born at Middletown, Conn., on Jan 31, 1841, and was appointed Third Assistant Engineer of the Unites States Navy in 1861, Second Assistant Engineer in 1863. First Assistant Engineer in the same year, Chief Engineer in July, 1888, Captain in 1899, and Rear Admiral in 1902, during which year he also retired on account of illness.

His first service was on the steam gunboat Cayuga, West Gulf Station, which was the first to pass the lower forts at the capture of New Orleans. He served in Sampson's fleet during the Spanish-American War, on the cruiser Cincinnati, from which he was transferred to the United State cruiser Brooklyn, completing his sea service April 24, 1899.
