Dorothy Zelle Evans Edwards, 100, of St. Louis and formerly of Greenville, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012. She was cremated and requested no services.

Mrs. Edwards was born March 26, 1912, in Myrtlewood, Al., to Shep and Dora Lassiter Evans. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, James Edwards, who died Oct. 9, 1974.

Dorothy was employed as a teacher for several years in Sharkey County Schools. She was a counselor for Youth House Inc. in New York City during the late 1940s.

For 31 years, she was active with her husband and brother, King Evans, in Edwards and Evans Funeral Home and Burial Association in Greenville. Dorothy sold her business in 1983 and moved to St. Louis in 1986 to be near her daughter.

She was a member of Cathedral Basilica Catholic Church of St. Louis and associate member of the Legion of Mary and Friends of the Cathedral. She was a former member of Sacred Heart Church in Greenville.
