Mrs. Thomas Shaughnessy, one of Chariton county's oldest and most highly respected ladies died at her home near Newhall Sunday night, Sept. 29, 1907, at 10:30 o'clock.
Mrs. Shaughnessy was 83 years, 4 months and 7 days old. She was born in County Galway, Ireland. Her maiden name was Mary Cahill, and she was married in Ireland Aug. 10, 1857, to Thos. Shaughnessy. She came with her husband to the states in the late 50's, first settling in Boston. In 1866 they continued westward, selecting Chariton county as their home.
They were the parents of five children, two sons and three daughters. The sons are Thomas Jr, and Sheriff S. J. Shaughnessy, of Keytesville. We were unable to learn the names of the daughters.
Funeral services were conducted at St. Joseph's Catholic church, in that vicinity, Tuesday afternoon, followed by interment at St. Joseph's cemetery.
