Birth: May 13, 1841
Leikanger kommune
Sogn og Fjordane fylke, Norway
Death: Mar. 24, 1912
Clearwater County
Minnesota, USA

Hans was the third of eight children born to Botolv Larsson and Kristi Hansdatter Svardal Eitorn, at the Eitorn farm in Leikanger. He was baptized there.

Hans emigrated with his parents, siblings, married aunt Kari H. Svardal Fjerstad and husband & children; and maiden aunt Brita Svardal in 1851. My g.grandfather Bendik Fjerstad, son of Kari Svardal Fjerstad, was just 3 years younger, and Bendik's sister the age of Hans. They were on that ship together from Norway to America.

Hans' parents first lived in Madison, Wi; then Iowa; then SW of Rochester, MN at Canisteo in Dodge Cty, Mn for about 3 decades, farming within walking distance to his two aunts (above) and Uncle Per Svardal who arrived in 1858.

Hans entered the military during the Civil War, 8.15.1862 in Co. B, 10th Infantry; and re-enlisted in 1863, discharged from a military hospital in 1865.

Hans was confirmed at E. St. Olaf Lutheran Church at Rock Dell, MN prior to his military years.

After Botolv (aka Baatel) Larson, Hans' father died, the family moved to Mower County, where Hans and his broker Erik lived with their mother until she died.

Hans moved to Polk County, MN and then Leon Twp., Clearwater County, MN close to his brother, Anders B. Larson and family and not too far from his brother, Lars B. Larson and family.

Hans married the widow Oline (Olson) Rud 12.12.1897, in Polk Cty, MN #1/191.
Hans helped her raise her seven children, and taught them farming skills for he was a farmer. Olina (spellings vary) was also born in Norway as was her first son with Mr. Rud, Ole. the others were born in MN.

Hans died 3.12.1912 at his farm near Clearbrook, Clearwater Cty, MN. Only his wife's son Ole Rud remained in the area; the other children and Oline (his wife) moved to Canada.
