Knute Arneson Bolstad was born at Evanger in Voss, Norway on Oct 31, 1839. At the age of 20 he emigrated to America.
He came to Dodge County MN in May 1859 and worked as a farmhand. He enlisted in the Civil War in company H 11th Minnesota Infantry, he served as a flag bearer until the war was over. He mustered ed out June 26 1865.
In May 1868 he married Ingeborg Rovang at Hayfield MN. Later, they came by train to Ada where they unloaded the family, then drove by covered wagon and settled near Fertile. They lived in a dugout the first year while they built their log house and cleared land. They lived in this log house about 20 years. Knute died in the spring of 1917 at the age of 78 years.
Other children are Gurina, Otto, Oscar, Ida, Thea, Emma and Mabel.
