August Bernard Abraham was born in Lubotzin, West Prussia (now Lubocino) on 29 Sep 1880 and was baptized at Tillau (Tyłowo) Catholic parish. He came with his family to Chicago when he was 10 years old. August married Mary Baszkowski at St. Josaphat Catholic Church in Chicago on 12 November 1913. They had 7 children: Bernice, Eleanor, Arnold, Bernard, Robert, August, and Herbert. As a young man, August was a day laborer. Later he became a journeyman plasterer.
