Bushrod Crawford, a short, stocky man, was a horse and mule rancher in the Upper Tonto Basin, just south of Payson from 1880 to 1883. The Crawfords owned and operated several rooming houses and hotels in Globe. Al Sieber the famous Chief of Scouts for General Crook, was a frequent guest and a good friend to the Crawfords until the day he died. Al even found time away from his Indian fighting in 1880 to be a withness to the wedding between Bush and Cordelia Adams. Bush and Cordelia named their first and only soon Oren Sieber Crawford. In 1897, Crawford shot down a neighbor during a dispute and went to jail for a little while.
