NOTE: There is a birth record on file in the Keene Vital Records for a Hannah Metcalf born NOV. 20, 1760. Father: Capt. Michael Metcalf. Mother: Hannah.

(Capt. Michael Metcalf and Abijah Metcalf were probably brothers.)

HUSBAND: Royal Blake, married JAN 18, 1777, at Swanzey, Cheshire Co., NH.

HEADSTONE INSCRIPTION:
In Memory [of Mrs.] Hannah, wife of [Mr.] Royal Blake, who Dec'd Nov. ye 21st, [1779, aged 19 years.]

[Royal Blake and Hannah Metcalf were married in Swanzey by Rev. Edward Goddard, Jan. 18, 1777. KVS. Lacking a permanent minister most couples had to go to Swanzey to be married. Goodard married eight couples from Keene, 1772-1777. Justice of the peace, Dr. Thomas Frink, married two couples.]

PAGE #581 "Blake, "Ariel" Royal (1756-1827), younger brother of Obadiah Blake, Jr., served briefly in the Keene militia in 1777. He lived in the Ash Swamp section of Keene and married twice. His first wife was Hannah Metcalf who died in 1779 after less than three years of marriage and two children; his second wife was Phillis Jillson (Jennison?) with whom he had nine more children."
