Frederick Moine Davenport was born in Kosciusko County Indiana on May 27th, 1915. He married the love of his life, Edna Rose Dunwiddie on March 2, 1946 in Sturgis Michigan. The children from this marriage were Kendal, Panette, Janell and Martin.

Fred lived in Constantine Michigan most of his life. He graduated from Constantine High in 1933. Worked for the Constantine Creamery and left that job to attend Hemp Hill Deisel Engineering School. He worked for several road companies until he enlisted in the Army on August 6, 1941 to join the 7th Armored Division during WWII where he was Captain. He recieved many honors including the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Upon his return on November 25, 1945 he joined his brother Doren as a partner in a garage and gas station in Nottawa MI. Left to become a manager of the Ford garage in Constantine under the ownership of Roy Wallace. He spent one year working for Billie Damm Auto Parts before accepting his nomination as Postmaster of Constantine, retiring there in 1976. In 1955 he started selling Niagra Health Equipment on a part time basis and after retiring from the post office began working at the Centerville Fair for several years. He had a prized Civil War gun and saber collection.

Fred was a member of post #223 American Legion of Constantine for 45 continuous years. He held many offices: Commander 1956, Adjunct 1961, 1963, 1972, 1974, served as Chaplain Sgt at Arms and had been historian for 7 years and Boys State Chairman for the American Legion and Rotary for many years. He was active in the local Boy Scouts for 27 years. Began as Ast. Soutmaster in 1950 also served as Pack Committee Chairman and various other troup committies. Honors he recieved were Order of the Arrow and Silver Beaver Award.

Fred loved his community and supported it in any way that he could. He was a huge Constantine sports booster, was on the Track Back Committee, Sunday school teacher at the United Methodist Church of Constantine and was named Citizen of the Year for Constantine in 1971.

He was a story teller. He gave talks to the 4th grade students on the Mesa Verde Cliff Dwellers, talks to organizations on the Clam Harvesting on the St.Joseph River and many many stories of childhood to his loving grandchildren. Fred was loved and respected by all who knew him.
