Vera E. Schmidt, 82, formerly of Blue Hill, Nebraska, died Monday January 17, 2000, at the mayflower Home in Grinnell, Iowa.
Services will be Saturday, January 22, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Blue Hill, with the Rev. John Ross officiating. Marlys Kort and Rosalie Pearson will be musicians. Selections will be "Amazing Grace," "The Old Rugged Cross," and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus."
Active Pallbearers will be Eldon and Edward Mitzelfelt, Joseph and Richard Hubl, Richard Blau, and Roger Burken. Honorary Pallbearers will be Clarence and William Mitzelfelt and Jerry Buskin. Burial will be in the Blue Hill Cemetery.
Memorials may go to the church or to the donor's choice. Merten-Butler Mortuary of Blue Hill is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Schmidt was born March 9, 1917, to William and Emelia (Waterman) Mitzelfelt at Blue Hill. She married Floyd A. Schmidt on October 6, 1940, in Hastings, Nebraska. He died January 26, 1994.
After spending most of her life in the Blue Hill area, she moved to Grinnell, Iowa, in September 1995. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the LCW.
She is survived by one son, Melvin of Tremont, Illinois; two daughters, LaVerda Fitzgerald of Grinnell and Ella McKinney of Malcom, Nebraska; seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter Betty Haradon; two brothers, Ervin and Clarence Mitzelfelt; one sister Lorene Bahnsen; one stepsister, Hattie Banks; and two stepbrothers, Herbert and Fred Banks.
