Eleanor Bank
Lee Eleanor Bank, 90, of Mount Pleasant and formerly of Salem and New London, died Sunday, May 17, 2009, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.
Born Oct. 13, 1918, in rural New London, she was the daughter of Sherman David and Elizabeth Jane Calloway Shelledy. On March 3, 1946, she married Herbert Carl Bank in rural New London. He died Jan. 20, 1990.

Mrs. Bank taught three years at Linwood School, one year at Union School and five years at Colfax School. She graduated from New London High School and received her teacher's certification from Iowa Wesleyan College.

She was a member of Salem Congregational Church, the Women's Society of Salem Congregational and taught Sunday school many years. She served as leader for the Snappy Salemettes 4-H Club. She enjoyed raising a large vegetable and flower garden, crocheting and tatting crafts.

Survivors include one daughter, Donna Gardner of Mount Pleasant; one son, Lloyd Bank of Salem; one brother, Floyd Shelledy of New London; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today at Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Due to Main Street road construction, friends are asked to enter the funeral home through the north door on Henry Street.

The funeral for Mrs. Bank will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Salem Congregational Church in Salem, with the Rev. Harold L. Dorsey officiating. Burial will be in Burge Cemetery in New London. Friends are invited to join the family for lunch at noon Thursday at the church.
