Funeral services were conducted at the Christian church in Glenwood on Wednesday, Sept. 2 for Richard Delavan, who died Aug. 30 at his home in Tabor. The Rev. William Lee pastor, and the Rev. J.W. Taenzler officiated.
Music was by Gerrard Baker, Shirley Lincoln, Virginia Rohr and Nancy Baker, accompanied by Mrs. Max Stewart. Ushers were Robert Stivers, Lester Anthony and Josh Hayter. Casket bearers were Hubert Perkins, Walter Phelps, Forrest Chambers, John Bricher, Herman Wise and Myron Jones. Flower bearers were Mrs. Grover Mayberry, Mrs. Warren Gaylord, Mrs. Perry Worth and Cuba Linville. Interment was in Tabor cemetery. Reeves Funeral Home of Tabor directed arrangements.
Richard C. Delavan, son of Hiram and Margaret Delavan, was born May 27, 1872, on a farm four miles northwest of Tabor and died at his home in Tabor Aug. 30, 1953. He was 81 years old.
He grew up on the farm where he was born. There he attended school and the Pleasant Hill church which his grandfather built. He became a member of the church when a young man.
On March 6, 1901, he was united in marriage to May Williams. To this union two sons, Paul and Dallas, both of Glenwood, were born.
Mr. and Mrs. Delavan moved to a home south of Glenwood when they were married and lived there for more than 52 years.
He is survived by his wife and two sons, two grandsons, his sister, Mrs. Clarence P. LeMire of Washington, D.C., and many other relatives and friends.
