JACK MALLAN Sr.

COCOA BEACH—Jack Mallan Sr., 74, a retired construction foreman and former prisoner of war, died Friday, Jan. 18, at Veterans
Nursing Care Center in Gainesville.

Mr. Mallan came to Brevard County 19 years ago from Orlando.

A native of Pittsburgh, Mr. Mallan entered the Army in 1942. He served as a master sergeant in the Rhineland Campaign of World War II until his capture during heavy combat on Oct. 6, 1944 by the German army. He was imprisoned in Stalag 2B until April 30, 1945, when he was liberated by the US. Third Army.

Mr. Mallan was a recipient of the Purple Heart for wounds received the day of his capture, Bronze Star, European-African-Middle East Campaign Medal with one Bronze Battle Star, Prisoner of War Medal and Combat Infantryman's Badge.

Mr. Mallan was commander of Chapter 775 of the Jewish War Veterans. He was charter commander of the Brevard Space Coast
Chapter of American Ex-POWs and a member of American Legion Post 400, Space Coast Chapter 123 of the Disabled American Veterans and Space Coast Chapter 453 of the Military Order of the Purple Heart.

Mr. Mallan was buried with military honors Monday at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
