James Elbert Johnson was born Feb. 2, 1939 to James & Bernice Edgmond Johnson. They had seven children: Geraldean (died in infancy), Edward, James, Evelyn, Helen, Linda, & Billy.
Elbert attended both Hartshorn and Summersville, Missouri schools.
He enlisted in the Air Force in 1956 and served four years for his country, specializing as Air Craft Control and Warning Operator in the Air Training Command. He spent considerable time stationed in Alaska, 250 miles from Russia.
After discharge from the Air Force, he came to live in Des Moines and married Judith Ann Bales. They had six children: Kelly (Judy's daughter from a previous marriage), Jamie Ray (died in infancy), Ronda, Shawn, Brandi, & James Jr. (died in infancy).
He was employed at Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. and was a member of United Rubber Workers Local 310.
'Elbert' was a great husband, father, son, brother, & friend. He was a friendly, outgoing person and made friends wherever he went. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
