John C. McDonald

Mr. John C. McDonald, age 85 of Tarrytown died Saturday, August 18, 2012, in Community Hospice, Vidalia.

Mr. McDonald was born in Montgomery County and was preceded in death by his parents, James M. and Ida Calhoun McDonald, wife, Alma Ree Warnock McDonald, and brothers and sisters. He was a member of the Vidalia Masonic Lodge and Faith Baptist Church, Treutlen County. He had served as deacon at Cornerstone Baptist Church, Higgston. He was retired from Oxford of Vidalia after 43 years and was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was one of the last living sons of a Confederate soldier living in the United States.

Survivors include his wife, Alma Tyson McDonald; children, Allen (Nancy) McDonald, Winston McDonald, and Diane (Chet) Cox, all of Tarrytown; grandchildren, Joni and Tyler Cox, Steven and Bradlan McDonald, all of Tarrytown; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held in the Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Tuesday morning with the Reverends Marty Beacham, Gene Helton, and Donny Crosby officiating. Burial will be in McDonald Cemetery, Montgomery County, with Confederate Military Honors.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and may be reached at the family residence.
