Sally, widowed with eight children still at home, experienced a period of hardship when she lost her home and moved into a rental property. She remained faithful to her children, remaining at home and a widow for the next 17 years.
The 1871 census was the first one listing the names of all the household members, previous to that it was just the head. In the 1871 census Sarah was listed-age 56. She had four children and her granddaughter (Vicie Ann) living with her.
Sally's second marriage was to a widower from Tiverton. They married in Tiverton in 1877 and he died in 1880. During her marriage to Alex Urquhart she lived at Tiverton and after his death she moved to Victoria Beach to live with her daughter Isabel Ellis. There she met and married Jacob Hayden. He was also a widower from Victoria Beach, and they married in 1884. Jacob died in May of 1892. In August, Sally returned to Westport.

Mrs. Sally Hayden passed away Saturday morning at 9 o'clock at the ripe age of 91 years. She got up as usual, made her bed, went out to the door, came back and sat down in her chair and expired. This lady was well known in Digby County as "Aunt Sally." Always a friend to everyone. Her first husband was Jacob Titus, 2nd being Alexander Urquhart while the 3rd was a Mr. Hayden of Victoria Beach, Granville. She leaves three sons William Titus, of Freeport, Edward and Howard, of Westport, to mourn the loss of a kind and affectionate mother. We extend our heart felt sympathy to the bereaved ones.
