Funeral for George Murdoch Hooper, 47, of Huntington will be held Thursday at 10 am in Arlam Baptist Church with interment in Caledonia Cemetery in Rusk Co.
Officiating will be Rev. Travis D. Lunsford, pastor of Arlam Baptist and Rev A.C. Hoke, pastor of Huntington Pentecostal. Eulogy will be given by Bob Barton of Garrison.
Mr Hooper died Tuesday, July 14 in Arlam.
Born January 13, 1940, in Timpson, he was the son of George Roy and Thelma McNair Hooper. He was a welder foreman with Brown and Root Construction, attended University of Houston where he played football from 1958-1961, played pro football for the Detroit Lions and was a Baptist.
Mr Hooper and Jackie Sanders were married August 15, 1959, and she survives him.
Also surviving are his mother, Mrs. Thelma Hooper of Garrison; three daughters, Mrs. Terri Frizzle of Springfield, MO, Mrs. Cheryl Akers of Center, and Ms. Michelle Hooper of Huntington; a sister, Mrs. Mary Jane Williams of Las Cruces, NM; two half sisters, Mrs Winnie Lambert of Rusk and Mrs Sharon Young of San Antonio, one grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Gus Ash, James Stokes, John Williams, Russell Spivey, Alan Porter, Calvin Porter, Don Coon, and Larry Coon. Honorary pallbearers will be John Tuthill and Vick Benson.
Music will be by Beverly Nettle, Betty Hancock, and Annette Boles.
Memorials may be contributions to Murdoch Hooper Fund at Arlam Baptist Church.
Cason Monk Metcalf Funeral Directors will be in charge of arrangements.
