MADISON MAN DIES SWIMMING AT QUARRY
A Madison man died Thursday afternoon after and incident while swimming at a privately owned quarry.
Ryan Patrick Moreland, 23, was swimming without authorization with four friends at the quarry, according to Indiana Conservation Officer Steve Miller, the investigating officer. The quarry is off SR 62 west of Hanover. According to witness statements, the group was swimming across the quarry when Moreland began having difficulty staying afloat. Friends assisted Moreland to the bank, where he was unresponsive. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Dept. received a 911 call by cell phone from the group at 6:23 pm. The Sheriff's departmentand Kings Ddaughters Hospital responded to the emergency call. CPR and other lifesaving measures were unsuccessful. Moreland was pronounced dead at the scene by Jefferson Co. Coroner Alice Jackson. The cause of death is not known. An autopsy has been scheduled today. The death is under investigation.
Mr. Ryan Patrick Moreland, age 23, of Madison, formerly of Hanover, Indiana, entered this life on May 18, 1988 in Lawton, Oklahoma. He was the son of Steven W. Moreland & Judy L. Canard Moreland Andrew. He resided most of his life in Jefferson County and was a 2007 graduate of Southwestern High School. In high school he enjoyed participating in wrestling, track, basketball & baseball. Ryan enjoyed life to the fullest, socializing with his friends & family, playing corn hole, cars, fishing, swimming, camping, music, concerts, NASCAR & boating. He was employed with Celtab and had previously worked with ENKEI in Columbus, Indiana. He had attended Hanover Baptist Church and participated in their different sports programs. Ryan was pronounced dead on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at 7:16 p.m. at the Rock Quarry near Hanover, Indiana.

Wayne, Indiana; his step sisters & step brothers: Natasha Melton & her husband, Seth of Madison, Indiana, Justin C. Brooks of Hanover, Indiana, Camille Andrew Eccles of Hanover, Indiana, Cody Andrew & his wife, Andrea of Madison, Indiana, Kristin Andrew of Madison, Indiana; his loving step mother: Tess R. Moreland of Hendersonville, Tennessee; his aunts & uncles: Debbie Gosman & her husband, John of Milton, Kentucky, Deanna Davis & her husband, John of Madison, Indiana, Barbara Leonard of Lawton, Oklahoma, Brigitte Coffman of Tulsa, Oklahoma; his great aunts & great uncles: Cheryl Geiss & her husband, Vernon of Floyd Knobs, Indiana, John Moreland of Orlando, Florida, Bob Martin & his wife, Ann of Greensburg, Indiana; several nieces, nephews, cousins & other relatives. He was preceded in death by his step father, Randall T. Andrew, Jr. died, Dec. 22, 2010; his grandparents, Herbert T. Moreland died, March 16, 1995; Norma Moreland died, June 3, 2009; H.E. & Virginia Ruth Martin; David H. Canard his great aunt, Diane Martin died Jan. 26, 2008.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 1:00 p.m., by the Rev. J.D. Traylor at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the New Prospect Cemetery near Saluda, Indiana.
Friends may call Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 11:00 am until time of the service at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana.
