SFC (Ret) Angel Adames, age 87 of Clarksville, passed away Sunday, June 26, 2011 at the VA Hospital in Nashville. A Funeral Mass will be held at 3 P.M. Thursday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with full Military Honors and Father Ed Steiner officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Funeral Home, 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Immaculate Catholic Church with a Vigil at 7:00 P.M. followed by a Rosary and 1:00 P.M. until hour of service at the Church on Thursday. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Sykes Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
He was born December 31, 1923 in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico to the late Juan Eloy Adames and Mariana Arce Adames. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Eduvigis (Helen) Nieves Adames.
He was retired from the US Army having served 28 years, 10 months and 24 days. He served in WWII and the Korean War with the 65th Infantry Regiment (The Borinqueneers), and served in the Vietnam War. His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal (9 awards), American Theater Medal, European-Africa-Middle East Campaign Medal (with 2 stars), WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal (Germany), National Defense Service Medal (w/star), Korean Service Medal (w/4 stars), Vietnam Service Medal (w/ 1 star), Korea Defense Service Medal, Republic of Korea War Service Medal, UN Service Medal (Korea), Overseas Service Ribbon, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation and the Combat Infantryman's Badge. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus (4th degree), a volunteer hospice worker, Eucharistic Minister, Loaves and Fishes volunteer and other church and community activities too numerous to mention.
He is survived by children, Leo (Margaret) Adames, Gabriel (Carol) Adames, Angel (Becky) Adames, Ivan (Denise) Adames, Hector (JoAnn) Adames, Alex (Lisa) Adames,
Helen (Howard) Kindell, Marianne (Steve) Tennant, Geraline (Gary) Terrill, Ralph Adames, Ellis (Tina) Adames; grandchildren, Rebecca Adames, Kelly Pinkard, Britney Campbell, Amanda Caudill, Alexandria Hamann, Kelly Buher, Evangaline Misso, Morgan Adames, Clinton Higginbotham, Julia Purdue, Joseph Tennant, Alex Berry, Audrey Adames, Jonathan Tennant, Nigel Adames, Madeline Tennant, Zackary Adames, Tyler Adames; great-grandchildren, Raeanne Adames, Gabriel Misso, Ethan Misso, Jisela Pinkard, Skyler Hibbs, Austin Caudill, Emma Caudill and long time Caregiver and family friend, Sheila Harrison.
A military honor guard will serve as pallbearers.
