Emma Johanna Catherine Haack nee Bebensee was the daughter of Jochim Georg and Elizabeth Bebensee nee Rebensdorf. She was born at Wandsbek, Germany on March 23, 1862. Emma died June 22, 1938, her age was seventy-six years, two months and twenty-nine days. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Pastor Feengber on Apr. 9, 1876 at the Christuskirche in Wandsbek. Emma had one brother, Mr. P.H. Gustave Bebensee who preceeded her in death in 1914 in Seattle, Washington. She also had one sister Pauline, Mrs. Johann Hogwitz of Germany.

In early May of 1886 she emigrated with her daughter Bertha on the SS Moravia. She was united in marriage with Louis Haack, May 30, 1886, the marriage ceremony being performed by the Rev.C.Deubler at Johnson, Nebraska. Mr. and Mrs. Haack experienced the joy and blessing of being permitted to celebrate their silver and golden wedding anniversaries.

The family first lived on a farm three miles north and two miles west, and later three years about two and one-half miles northwest of Long Branch(St. James) Lutheran Church. In recent years they lived on their present farm.

Ailing for several years her conditon grew alarming the Sunday before her death and after partaking of the Lord's Supper she passed to her heavenly reward. Mrs. Haack is survived by her husband and the following children: Martha, Mrs. Julius Schneider; Bertha, Mrs. Diedrich Mueller and Paul Haack of Bird City, Kansas: George and Julius Haack of Elk Creek; Otto Haack of Peru, Louis Haack of Hildreth, Herman Haack and Clara, Mrs. Cecil Stanley of Tecumseh. All are married. There are thirty-five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Emma also raised her nephew, Hans Bebensee, who was the son of her brother, from the age of 10 years. In 1906 she welcomed Hans' brother, Gus Bebensee (age 16) into her home after he emigrated from Germany.

The funeral was held at the Martin Luther Lutheran Church and was officiated by Rev. Fruehling.
