OLD LOVE FIELD VETERAN, DIES


Samuel W. Gakin, who lived in Dallas 38 years because he liked it when he was stationed at Love Field during World War I, died Friday after a long illness. He was 59.

Gakin, who lived at 5613 East Side, was employed by Lone Star Gas Company here 31 years. He retired in June, 1954.

Born June 23, 1896, in Little Falls, Minn., he moved to the state of Washington with his family when he was nine. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in October, 1917, and was stationed in Love Field all the time he was in the service.

Gakin was a member of Oak Cliff Masonic Lodge 705 and Jack B. Swaim Post 424 of the American Legion. He had belonged to Mount Auburn Christian Church since 1926.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Cora Belle Gakin, a daughter, Mrs. Fleita Gaddis of Dallas; three sisters, Mrs. Sybil McDaniel of Silverdale, Wash.; Mrs. Grace Mill and Mrs. Pearl O' Keef, both of Bremerton, Wash., and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in Ed C. Smith & Bro. Chapel, 4103 Swiss, with the Rev. Lamar Hocker, pastor of Mount Auborn Christian Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Grove Hill Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Arnold Galipp, Joe Lorrain Jr., W. P. Manigk, L. T. Schmid, A. D. Stephenson and Raymond West.
