Mr. Hayes was a member of St. Anthony's Parish, Air Force Sergeants Association and a previous member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid fly-fisherman who hunted and enjoyed traveling. His family said, ''Dad was a devoted family man who went to great lengths to stay in touch with his loved ones, both near and far. After 57 years of marriage, he and Mom were still a shining example of true love. Dad took great pleasure in watching his grandson play sports. Always an outdoorsman, he also enjoyed spending time at the lake, feeding the birds and watching the loons. He was a very caring person who spent many years mentoring young men in the Air Force. We will miss him dearly, and will cherish our many memories of his love, humor, and commitment to his family, friends, God and country.'' Mr. Hayes is survived by his wife, Vula M.
