Howard Leroy MacArthur, 22, of eastern Geary county was killed in action in France March 6, it was reported here today. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel B. MacArthur, of Alta Vista, route one.

The MacArthur family could not be reached by telephone today, but it was understood the War Department message was recieved last Thursday or Friday.

Howard MacArthur was born on May 24, 1923, and he entered the armed forces on March 27, 1943.

Born in Liberty township, Geary Co. KS

Sergeant, 262nd Infantry Regiment, 66th Infantry Division, US Army. Inducted March 27, 1943 Geary County, Kansas. When he died his unit was involved in reducing the Lorient Pocket in Brittany, one of the last German holdout positions in western France. Awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart


Died near Lorient, Morbihan, Bretagne, France
