FORMER BA, UNION TEACHER DIES
Lena Pitson, who taught at Broken Arrow High School and Union Consolidated School for 20 years, died Wednesday at the age of 76. Services are pending with the Christian Funeral Service.
Pitson was born in Lone Grove, Okla., on Nov. 9, 1907. She was graduated from high school at Ravia, Oklahoma., and earned her masters degree from Northeastern State college in Tahlequah.
She taught school throughout Oklahoma, beginning in 1941 at Troy. She taught at Murphy from 19043-44 and at the Whittaker children's Home for one year.
In 1946, she came to Union Consolidated and taught for two years. 1946-1948. She then moved to Broken Arrow High School and taught there for 18 years, 1948-1966. When she retired in 1973, she was teaching at Stigler.
A member of the Nazarene Church she was active as the National Education Association and the and the Oklahoma Education Association. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association.
She is survived by four daughters, Virginia Jo Bettcher of Cibolo, Texas, Mary Jean Lair of Tulsa, Betty Louise Hurley of Sallisaaw and Alice Lee Schoffler of Oklahoma city; one son Jimmy Pitson of Porter; 11 grandchildren; nine great-.grandchildren
