John enlisted for Civil War army service in Company H, 103rd Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, August 9, 1862, at Elyria, Ohio(Lorain County), for a term of 3 years. Occupation: Farmer. John was killed in action at the Battle of Resaca, GA, May 14, 1864. The OFFICIAL ROSTER OF THE SOLDIERS OF THE STATE OF OHIO IN THE WAR OF THE REBELLION, 1886, Vol. VII, page 768 shows that he was buried in Chattanooga.
