Hannibal enlisted as a private in Company H, 103rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment, July 30, 1862, at Elyria, Ohio(Lorain County) for a term of 3 years. Occupation: ship's carpenter. He died of disease, March 23, 1863, at Frankfort, KY.
His middle initial possibly stood for "Thomas."
His wife was Susan Eliza (nee Buck) Osgood, born in 1817 in Bethany Township, Genesee County NY. She died in Huntington Township, Lorain County OH, Feb. 14, 1903. She and Hannibal were married July 6, 1834 in Lorain County OH and had four sons and two daughters before 1862.
