James E. Alexander, 62, of Roanoke, Va., formerly of Lebanon, Va., died Wednesday following a short illness. Born May 4, 1941, he was the son of the late Virgie A. Cheatham and grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Sam Alexander. James was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp., and served in Vietnam. He was educated in Russell County Schools. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Stephen Jordon of Beckley, W.Va. He leaves behind to mourn his passing, one sister, Barbara Pirtle and husband Roy of Augusta, Ga.; one brother, Samuel Cheatham of Jacksonville, N.C.; two devoted aunts, Lucille A. Brown of Roanoke, Va. and Sadie Coleman of Norton, Va.; three devoted uncles, James L. Alexander and wife Cleo of Lebanon, Va., Tom Alexander of Plainsfield, N.J., and Frank Alexander and wife Colteal of Oakland, Calif.; special friend, Joyce Leftwich and son, Robert Leftwich of Roanoke, Va.; two nieces; one nephew; and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Combs Funeral Home, Lebanon, Va. (276) 889-4444, with the Rev. Robert White officiating. Burial will follow at Ketron Memorial Cemetery, Lebanon, Va. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Final arrangements by Durgan Funeral Home, Beckley, W.Va.
