The community was shocked Saturday morning to learn that Wm. Halladay had passed away during the night. Although Mr. Halladay has been sick for many years, for the past few days he had been feeling much better, was down town Friday and worked out in the yard but about 10 o'clock, he took suddenly worse and passed away about midnight.
Mr. Halladay was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, February 12th, 1837, and was the son of Sterling and Polly Halladay. On September 22, 1857, he was married to Sarah Shepardson, to this union was born five children, only two of whom are now living, Sterling Halladay of Miller, Nebraska; and Mrs. Anna Dunn of near Hancock. His wife died in 1875. On May 10, 1877, he was married to Miss Zeanna Barnes and moved to Iowa, near Oakland, in 1880, moved to Hancock, in 1901, resided here until his death July 3, 1909. He was 72 years and five months old at the time of his death.
Mr. Halladay was a Private in Company F, 9th Indiana Regiment Infantry Volunteers. The funeral was held at the M. E. church Sunday at 11 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Shenton. The G.A.R.'s from Oakland attended in a body, and interment in Avoca cemetery.
