Death of Joseph Liggett
Joseph Liggett died Saturday morning (Jan. 6) at 11 o'clock at his home in this city at the age of 56 years, of cancer, after months of untold suffering. The services were held Sunday at his late residence, Rev. A. Johnson officiating. At the cemetery the services were conducted by U.S. Grant post of which he was a member.
Joseph Liggett was born in St. Joe county, Indiana, October 1843, was married to Miss Nora Norter, December 15, 1867, and continued to live in the state of Indiana until 1889 when with his family he moved to Walnut, living there one year and then moved to Avoca where he has since resided. He leaves a wife and three children to mourn his loss. Mr. Liggett was a soldier of the rebellion, having enlisted in 1862 in Company C, 73rd Indiana volunteers as a private, and was discharged in 1865. The family have the sympathy of their many friends during this their hour of bereavement.
