William G. "Billy" Burrell, 68, of Hayesville passed away Saturday, December 29, 2012 in a Murphy medical center. He was a native of Clay County. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the United States Marine Corp and receiving the Purple Heart. Billy retired after 34 years as a machinist with Lockheed Martin. He was a member of the Clay County Masonic Lodge # 307, DAV, and the Shooting Creek Church of God.
He was the son of the late Wymer and Floy Ledford Burrell.
Surviving is a sister, Barbara "Bobbie" Burrell of Hayesville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 7:00 PM Monday, December 31, 2012 in the Chapel of the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with Revs. Eddie Brewer and Robbie Sizemore officiating. Interment was at 10:00 AM Tuesday, January 01, 2013 in the Shooting Creek Church of God Cemetery with military graveside conducted by the Murphy American Legion Post 96, DAV Chapter 73, VFW Post 10222, and Hayesville American Legion Post 532, VFW Post 6812 (Allison-Bristol). Pallbearers were Nolan Huffman, Darrell Gibson, Mike Garrett, Johnny Holden, Harold Dean Parker, and Paul Sessoms. Honorary pallbearers were Carroll Kitchens, Climpson Maney, Gary Schuh, and Hugh Hamilton.
Billy's family received friends from 5:00-6:45 Monday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville prior to the services.
