He was the son of George Duncan and Isabel Hopkins Duncan.

On April 23, 1889 as Edward A. Duncan, he married Alice W. Bond at Loudoun, Virginia.

They had no children.

Died

Duncan. On Monday, February 15, 1915 at 2PM at 1401 Girard Street Northwest, Edward A. Duncan, late surgeon of United States Volunteers, aged eighty-five years. Funeral private from Wright's Parlors, 1337 Tenth Street Northwest, Thursday, February 18 at 1:30PM. Interment at Arlington.


From State's Roster and Record of Iowa Soldiers, Volume III, where he is listed as Edwin A. Duncan and Volume V, where he is listed as Edward A. Duncan.

Edward A. Duncan was born in New Hampshire and moved to Dubuque, Iowa. On August 20, 1862 he enlisted as a fifer and was mustered into Company C of the 21st Iowa Infantry. On September 9, 1862, the day the regiment was mustered into service, he was appointed Hospital Steward. On November 3, 1862 he was discharged so he could accept an appointment as Assistant Surgeon of the 38th Iowa Infantry. He resigned from that regiment on July 24, 1863.
