William Leo Jarboe died Tuesday at Bozeman Deaconess Hospital. He was 78.
Jarboe was born Sept. 2, 1912, in Marlin, MO., to Alfred Jarboe and Nellie Hughes. The family moved to Manhattan in January 1920.
Jarboe graduated from Manhattan High School in 1930. He married Pearl Staffanson on Feb. 5, 1936. In 1944, he joined the Army and spent two years in Saipan. After his military service, Leo established a registered Hereford ranch in Livingston and later moved to Manhattan where he ranched until his retirement. He won many awards at various cattle shows and sales. He was a member of the American Hereford Association, the Manhattan Rotary Club, a 48-year member of the Elks Club, a 43-year member of the American Legion, and director of the Montana Winter Fair for 30 years.
Jarboe is survived by his wife, Pearl Jarboe of Manhattan, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Meadowview Cemetery. Interment will follow.
