Jonathan Galloway was the son of Alexander Galloway and the former Miss Mary Millen. He was born in York County on the 10th day of February 1810. He graduated from Jackson College, Columbia. Tenn., in 1830 and became as a student of Theology Nov. 10th, 1831. Jonathan Galloway was licensed as a minister at Hopewell A.R.P. in Chester, South Carolina in 1833.

On the 4th of December, 1838, he was married to Miss Martha Speer, a daughter of John Speer and the former Miss Elizabeth Caldwell , of Abbeville Co., South Carolina. They had seven children.

Rev. Galloway was a distinguished preacher and served for 20 years as minister of four A.R.P. churches: Head Springs, King's Creek, Prosperity and Cannon's Creek in the Newberry, South Carolina area.

Along with is pastoral duties, Rev. Galloway was an advocate of education; thus he originated and helped establish Due West Female College; serving as its first President.

Rev. Jonathan Galloway died at the age of 69 on March 3, 1879. He was laid to rest in the churchyard cemetery beside Due West A.R.P. Church.
