James Cisero Boyd, the son of James Boyd and Frances Agnew, was born in the bounds of Hopewell A.R.P. Church in Chester County, South Carolina on November 28th 1833. James was educated at Due West, South Carolina and graduated from Erskine College in the Class of 1855. In the fall of the same year, he was taken under the care of the First Presbytery as a student of theology at Sardis, North Carolina and after spending two years at Erskine Theological Seminary in Due West, South Carolina was licensed by the First Presbytery at Coddle Creek A.R.P. in the fall of 1857.

In the spring of 1858, Rev. Boyd was ordained and installed pastor of Head Springs, Cannon's Creek, and Prosperity, in Newberry County, South Carolina by the Second Presbytery. For thirty-two years Rev. Boyd was pastor of these churches and left his impress on the people of these churches and did a noble work among them.

Rev. Boyd was married three times. On August 14th 1857, to Miss Elizabeth Jane "Lizzie" Pressly, daughter of Rev. Ebenezer E. Pressly, D. D., of Due West, South Carolina; who soon died; leaving him one daughter, Mary Francis (18581912).

His second marriage was in November 1861 to Miss Margaret Frances McClintock, daughter of John and Mary McClintock, by whom he had seven children:
Elizabeth Jane (1862-1940)
Josephine (1864-1889)
Beatrice (1866-1874)
Laurence Eugene (1868-1873)
James Ebenezer (1870-1931)
Johnnie McClintock (1873-1876)
Infant Son (1876-1876)

After Margaret Frances died in the spring of 1881, Rev. Boyd married Miss Lavinia Pressly, daughter of Richard and Mary Barron Pressly, who survived him; no children where born to this union.

In 1890, Rev. Boyd resigned the charge that he had so long served and went to Iredell County, North Carolina; where he was soon installed over the congregation of New Sterling A.R.P. Here he remained pastor for ten years, resigning because of ill health in 1900. After long years of faithful service in the Master's vineyard, this servant of the Lord passed to his reward March 29th, 1902 and was buried at New Sterling A.R.P. churchyard cemetery.
