Elbert was a graduate of Crozier Technical High School and was a student at Texas A&M College when he enlisted in the Air Force. A B-26 pilot in the Twelfth Air Force, he was killed at Anzio Beach, Italy. Reburial services were held at Laurel Land Memorial Park in December 1949.

His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Harry M. Clark.
