Bessie Thompson--HULBERT – Funeral services for Bessie Thompson, 98, of Tahlequah will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 1, 2009 in the Swimmer Baptist Church, Hulbert. Officiating will be Rev. D J McCarter. Serving as pall bearers are Mark, Stacy, and Tim Thompson, George and James Walters, and Jeremy Ketcher. Honorary pall- bearers are John and Jerry Ketcher, and Bob Hawkins. Interment will follow in the Swimmer Cemetery under the care of Green Country Funeral Home.
Bessie was born in the neighboring community of Lost City on Aug. 6, 1910, the daughter of John and Lizzie (Hair) Dreadfulwater.
She and Drunken Thompson were married in 1935 and had seven children.
Bessie attended the Lost City School in the area where she grew up. She loved to cook, sew, growing an garden, fish, and hunting crawdads and all kinds of greens and mushrooms. In her younger days she loved to attend gospel singings, play the piano, and ride horses.
Bessie also helped raise her oldest granddaughter Stella and her great-grandchildren Corey and Chelsea.
Predeceasing Bessie in death are her husband and parents, an infant daughter Stella Mae, a daughter Betty Still, and two cousins that were brought up like her sisters Leola Walters and Susie Ketcher.
She is survived by children Billy Joe Thompson of the home, John Thompson and wife Becky of Tulsa, J.B. Thompson and James Thompson both of Tahlequah, and Eva Thompson of the home. Eleven grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson, other relatives, friends, and loved ones who will miss her greatly.
