Emma Small Townsend McChristion
Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Small Townsend McChristion, 71, of Duck Hill were held at the Roberts and Sons Mortuary Chapel on Saturday, August 8, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Starks officiating, assisted by the Rev. Alexander Cade. Burial was in Hayes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. McChristion died Tuesday, August 4, 1987, DOA at the Loretta Hospital in Chicago, Illinois after a brief illness. She was a native of Montgomery County and was a retired factory worker. She is the daughter of Mrs. Cora Small and the late Marion Small. She was first married to Plato Townsend, and then to Sol McChristion.
She is survived by her husband and her mother, and by one daughter, Mrs. Mattie Helen Ewing of Chicago; four sons, Herman Townsend, Mason Townsend, Plato Townsend, Jr. and Marion Townsend, all of Chicago; one brother, Henry Small of Chicago; four sisters, Mrs. Annie Mae Butts of Lodi, Mrs. Viola Brown of Duck Hill, Mrs. Bessie Greenlee and Mrs. Shirley Goldman, both of Winona. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the Young Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and was a member of the Heroines of Jericho Court No. 75 at Duck Hill.
Pallbearers were Willie Earl Townsend, Charlie Hemphill, George Small, Willie James Small, Henry Townsend, Jr. and Leon Townsend. Honorary pallbearers were Henry Small, Mason Townsend, Marion Townsend, Herman Townsend, Plato Townsend, Jr. and J.E. Ewing. Roberts and Sons Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
