The birth year is an estimate. The exact date of his birth is unknown.

Woodworth, Daniel, of Smithfield, Madison Co. d. Sept. 26, 1817 ae.44 years (This is listed on the Fairview Cemetery webpage.)

Daniel Woodworth-NY
Daniel Melvin Woodworth was baptized in Bozrah, CT, on June 20, 1773. He was the son of Benjamin Woodworth. Benjamin was married three times, and because the exact date of Daniel Melvin's birth is unknown, it cannot be determined which wife was his mother. He married in Bozrah, CT, on Jan. 5, 1795, Bathsheba Gardiner. She was born in abt. 1777. Their children were:
1. Daniel, born April 19, 1802, who married Nancy Davis.
2. Harry, born Nov. 4, 1804, who married Polly Hutchinson.
3. Sophia, who married Sardis Baldwin.
4. Almira (Alvira?), who married Justin (Justus) Barber.
5. Louisa M., born Feb. 19, 1812, who married at Fenner, NY, on Mar. 30, 1831, Albert
Cole [Gospel minister] from CT.

He enlisted as a private on April 26, 1781, in Colonel Albert Pawling's Regiment of New York Independent Levies. Men-at-arms were usually at least sixteen years old; however, musicians were as young as eleven for a fifer or twelve for a drummer. These ages reflect the age at which young men were allowed to join the Continental forces during the years of the war. If he were eleven at the time of his enlistment, Daniel would have been born around 1770. The levies were special groups of men used to fill the ranks of regular troops or as independent units. The Pawling Levies were used to man forts along the frontiers of Ulster and Orange Counties in NY from 1779 to 1781. They were to stop raids carried out by Indians and Loyalist.
After the war, Daniel was a surveyor at Cazenovia, NY, in 1795. In 1801, he moved his family to Fenner, Madison Co., NY. He died Sept. 26,1817, in Smithfield, Madison Co., New York. Bathsheba died on Sept. 1, 1847, in Fenner, Madison Co., NY. Both of their wills are on file at the Madison County Courthouse.
