Vladimir Komarov
Birth: Mar. 16, 1927
Death: Apr. 24, 1967

Cosmonaut. Born Vladimir Mikhailovich in Moscow, Russia, he was a Colonel in the Soviet Air Force when he was selected as a Cosmonaut in February 1960. After various cosmonaut assignments, he made his first spaceflight with the Voskhod 1 mission on October 12, 1964. In April 1967, on his second flight on Soyuz 1, during the re-entry he was killed when the spacecraft crashed due to a flaw in the parachute compartment of the main parachute which did not deploy. In his honor, the asteroid 1836 and the military pilot school in Yeisk, Russia were named after him. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)

I only learned of who you were just a few days ago. Wish there was more information in schools about you. Rest in Peace.
