Pvt Connors enlisted into the army at Chicago IL on December 5, 1867. His listed civilian occupation was teamster. Connors was described as 5'7", blue eyes, dark hair with a fair complexion. He was assigned to the 8th US Cavalry at Ft Selden NM. At the end of Connors' enlistment, he re-enlisted at St Louis MO on August 20, 1875. He was assigned to Company I, 7th US Cavalry at Ft Lincoln Dakota Territory. Company I was commanded by Capt Myles Keogh. Connors was killed during the Battle of the Little Bighorn. At the battle Company I was believed to have been attacked from the rear by a large number of warriors led by Crazy Horse & were quickly overwhelmed. It is likely Conners was first buried where his remains were found. In 1881 all known battlefield burials were re-buried in a mass grave on top of Last Stand Hill.
