Walter Abbott, age 23, enlisted in Co. E of the 11th Virginia Infantry on 14 April 1861 as a sergeant. He was promoted lieutenant on 30 August 1861, was wounded at the Battle of Williamsburg on 5 May 1862, and was killed at the Battle of Glendale/Frayzer's Farm on 30 June 1862.

Married Elizabeth Miller Duval on 29 March 1860 in Lynchburg, Virginia. Walter was killed in the Battle of Frazier's Farm.
