Co. F 20th TN Infantry. Burned the "Noble Ellis" steamboat on which the Confederates crossed the Cumberland River after their defeat at Fishing Creek, KY. He was paroled at Greensboro, North Carolina on May 1, 1865.
1861-DAVID ENSLISTED IN MIL. SERVICE OF CIVIL WAR IN JUNE 1, 1861 AT CAMP TROUSDALE IN CO. F. 20TH TENN INF., DURING HIS SERVICE HE BURNED THE "NOBLE ELLIS" ON WHICH THE CONFEDERATES CROSSED THE CUMBERLAND RIVER AFTER THEIR DEFEAT AT FISHING CREEK. PAROLED AT GREENSBORO N.C. MAY 1, 1865. HE DID NOT FILE FOR PENSION AFTER THE WAR. YEARS LATER HE MOVED TO SIMPSON CO. KY. FROM SUMNER CO., TN. HIS OLD HOME PLACE IS LOCATED ON ROUTE 100 ABOUT MILES FROM FRANKLIN. HE WAS ONE OF THE FIRST TO BE BURIED IN THE CEMETERY.
