Benoni Lee Beach farmed section 29 in Scott Township. He married Harriet Marie Blakely probably in Ontario Co. N.Y.
Benoni came to this county with his family in 1842 and settled near his present farm. He owned 240 acres there. Mr Beach was very prominent in the county having served as a Justice of the Peace.
The country was wild and unsettled when he arrived. The only place to get supplies was in Chicago and Beloit, Wisconsin to mill.
The Beach family was large with 14 children. Huldah, Stephen A., Albert, William, Alpheus, Lafayette, Triphenia, Olive, Marriett, Eliza Jane, Martha, Francis, Oscar, and Alson. A 15th child was born and died in 1832 while the family still lived in N.Y.
