Alexander E. Aitken was born in July 1844 in Canada. He enlisted as a Private on February 29, 1864 at the age of 19. Joined Co. A, 3rd Iowa Infantry Regiment on March 8, 1864. Captured by Confederate forces at Atlanta, GA on July 22, 1864. He was held at Andersonville Prison.
