Abraham James Brinkhuis, son of Abraham and Hattie (Dorseman) Brinkhuis, was born August 18, 1925 at Newkirk, IA. He received his education in Rock Valley, IA. On November 19, 1943, Abe entered the United States Navy where he served in World War II. He was honorably discharged on January 28, 1946. In 1949, Abe moved to Sioux Falls, SD where he began working at John Morrell and Company in the Pork Division. He retired in 1984.

Abe was united in marriage with Grace (Trauernicht) Wylie on September 3, 1966, at Sioux Falls.

Abe was a longtime member of East Side Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder. He worked with the Boy Scouts for many years and was a member of the American Legion Post #15 and the John M. Bliss V.F.W. Post #628, both of Sioux Falls.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Grace Brinkhuis, Sioux Falls, SD; a son, Robert Brinkhuis, Sioux Falls, SD; two stepsons, R.W. "Ron" Wylie and his wife, Teresa, Brandon, SD, John Wylie and his wife, Lona, Eagan, MN; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Rev. James Brinkhuis and his wife, Darlene, Little Rock, IA; three sisters, Gladys Terpstra and her husband, Harry, Brooten, MN, Hermina Sandbulte, Edgerton, MN, Mary Van Surksum and her husband, Richard, Rock Valley, IA; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Abe was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Peggy Sue Brinkhuis; and a stepdaughter, Connie Shafer.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family for lunch and fellowship at East Side Presbyterian Church following the committal service.

In lieu of flowers, Abe's family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to a charity of the donor's choice.
