Old Settler Passes
Another Civil War Veteran Answers The Last Call
George Norman, one of the early settlers of this county, a veteran of the Civil War and an honored citizen, died at his home in Henrietta on the 17th.
George Norman, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Norman, Sr., was born at Ora Province, Ontario, Jan. 22, 1837, and departed out of this life at his home in the town of Henrietta, Richland county, Wis., Dec. 17, 1925, having reached the advanced age of 88 years, 10 months, and 25 days.
He came with his parents to Jefferson, Wis., in 1850, from there with his parents in the year 1855 they came to Richland county and he has since lived in the town of Henrietta. He enlisted in the war of the Rebellion in the year 1863, serving in the eleventh Wis. regiment, Co. D. He saw much hard service in the south, taking part in the actions, siege, and capture of Fort Blakely. He was honorable discharged Sept., 1865, having given to his country some of the best of his life.
He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Nicks in the year 1868. To this happy union four children were born, three sons and one daughter, namely, William, Ephraim, Leo and Loretta.
Soon after his marriage he settled on the farm where he passed away. With the aid of his devoted wife he succeeded in making a comfortable home for themselves and family. His career has been one of thrift and devotion to his family and country and all will remember him as an honest and worthy character. He gave his life to Christ and for many years he has been a member of the First Adventist church of Henrietta.
He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife and children, the family having remained unbroken by death till the father was called, and also two grandchildren, two brothers, namely Joshua and James, both of Henrietta, and a host of friends.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. D.O. Dietzman from the home, (article cuts off), internment being made in the Woodstock cemetery.
