Rita (Majeres) Ritz was born on Thursday, July 27, 1915, on her parents' farm one mile north of Oyens, IA, the daughter of Joseph and Clara (Delperdang) Majeres. Rita attended school at St. Catherine's in Oyens through the 8th grade.

On Tuesday, October 22, 1940, Rita married John Ritz at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Oyens.

Before her marriage, Rita did domestic work in the Granville, IA, area. Following her marriage she was a homemaker in Remsen, IA.

Rita loved to cook and keep house, she liked to knit, and she made a personal quilt for each of her grandchildren upon high school graduation. She was an exceptional seamstress, enjoyed gardening, and loved to play cards (pinochle and bridge). She served lunch promptly at noon and supper promptly at 5:30, and she was famous for a big Sunday meal. She often made popcorn before bedtime.

She thought there had never been a bad Democrat or a good Republican.

While her husband was running the family gas station, Rita made many trips to LeMars and Sioux City for car-repair parts and supplies for the station.

Rita was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Church Guild, the Christian Mothers, and the Catholic Daughters of America.

Rita moved to the Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen on November 21, 2000, and lived there until her death.

Rita and John had 3 sons and 1 daughter: Jim, Joan, Paul, and Phil.

Rita's husband John died on July 18, 1995. Rita lived as a widow for the next 11 years.

Rita, 91 years old, died on Sunday, October 29, 2006, at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars, IA. The cause of her death was sepsis. On Thursday, November 2, following a 10:30 a.m. funeral Mass said by Father William McCarthy at Remsen St. Mary's Church, Rita was buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Remsen, beside her husband, John.
