Howard Fiedler was born on Monday, October 13, 1913, the son of William and Mary Fiedler.
On Saturday, March 7, 1942, Howard married Burnice Beal in Omaha, NE.
Howard served in the US Army for three years during World War II under General George Patton, and he was a member of the American Legion for more than 50 years.
Howard operated Beal's Grill, his father-in-law's restaurant, from 1958 to 1986, when he closed the restaurant and sold it to Creighton University. "I've loved every minute of the many years I've been with this grill," Howard said in a 1984 Omaha World-Herald interview. "I like to cook for the students. A good many who came in here for meals have gone on to become famous in their fields."
Howard enjoyed watching horse races and football games. He often accompanied Walt Beal to the Ak-Sar-Ben race track in Omaha, but Howard made much smaller bets.
Howard and Burnice had no children.
Howard, 82 years old, died of complications from heart problems on Thursday, September 12, 1996, in Omaha's Methodist Hospital. His prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m. at the Heafey-Hoffmann-Dworak-Cutler Funeral Home's West Center Chapel in Omaha on September 13. Following a 9:30 a.m. Saturday, September 14th funeral Mass at Creighton University's St. John's Catholic Church, he was buried at Calvary Cemetery, Omaha, with full military honors provided by American Legion Post #1.
