Frank, the son of Frank W. Bush of Wellsville PA, and Loretta J. Bush of Staten Island NY, enlisted in the US Marine Corps on March 4, 1969 in Harrisburg PA. He arrived in Vietnam on September 9, and was assigned to Company L, 3d Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF.
While in their night defensive position just west of the Xuan Tay village complex in Que Son District the Marines received a heavy volume of automatic weapons fire from an estimated platoon sized force of NVA. The men engaged the enemy with small arms and supporting arms fire until the attacking force broke contact and withdrew. LCpl Bush was killed in action during the fire fight as a result of hostile rifle fire.
