Sergeant Bayles left Hastings with Company G, National Guard, in January 1941 and later was transferred to Company E of the 134th Infantry with General Patton's Third Army. He was killed in action in France in September 1944.
He was born August 9, 1919 in Superior, NE and came to Hastings with his parents in 1921. Prior to enlisting he was employed by the Western Land Roller Company.
He was survived by his parents, Mr and Mrs Edwin Bayles, three brothers, Bill of Hastings, Darrell of Grand Island and Sergeant Herbert Bayles of Okinawa; four sisters Mary Martin and Mrs. Harold Haase of Hastings, Mrs. Robert Frye of Corona, CA and Mrs. W.N. Cosby of Grand Island.
His wife the former Zola Mae Orth whom he married in Los Angeles in 1942, remarried after his death and became Mrs. Joe Drayer of Portland, OR.
